Saltwater pool with slimy walls.

This is my first saltwater pool. It's a 27' 52" deep above ground pool. The water is very clear but I am having a problem with the walls and the floor. My liner is covered with a clear slime. What can I do to clean it up? What can I do to keep it from reoccurring? All I have added do far is the salt. I also have a salt feeder. I have scrubbed the walls and the floor but the clear slime returns in a day or two.

Welcome!

It's time to get edumacated. Start at ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry

I'll tell you what happened: you believed them when they said all you needed was salt. You need more than that. Sunlight will destroy chlorine as fast as it can be generated, which leaves none left to fight algae. To stop that, you add stabilizer aka Cyanuric Acid.

Luckily for you, you started searching for answers before it got green and murky, but that's just days away unless you take immediate action.

What you need is what we call a SLAM Process. Problem is, you need a test kit that can measure chlorine levels above 10 ppm to do it. I doubt you'll find one in stores and probably won't get one by mail in a timely manner what with the holiday weekend.

So.... in the meantime....

You need to add about 4 lbs of stabilizer granules via the sock method. And then reach for the bleach and add 2 full jugs and let it mix and brush all the slime off the walls. After that, a jug a day. Will it clear it all? Probably not. But it should at least keep it from going green until you get a proper test kit and can SLAM Process according to the directions.

More info you'll need (sock method included) Pool School - Recommended Pool Chemicals

You will need more stabilizer later, after you've eradicated the algae. But 4 lbs will get you close to 30, which is a big improvement. How I figured that is with Pool School - PoolMath
