Hello, Im new here and just found your sight. I hope someone can help.

Ive been dealing with some very stubborn blackish staining on my pool and after adding the PoolRX as was suggested by the local pool store which has been in the pool for a couple weeks. It didn't get rid of the black staining algae so I added some Super Black Algicide yesterday to try and piggy back with the PoolRX, still was not helping get rid of the staining even with daily brushing. So this morning I added a dry pool shock and thats when the black staining got real black. Like I added the dry pool shock an hour before the pool filter turned on and the floor of my pool turned black. Ive been just reading what might have happened and I think its likely a copper reaction with the chlorine. The PoolRX thing is a block of copper/zinc/silver and Im readin that this might have contributed to the deep staining when I shocked it this morning. My question is now what do I do? My light algae stains are now very vivid black on the floor of my pool? Should I try some VitC and a metal brush from the pool store? Im a little upset my pool store didnt warn me about the possibility of this type of thing happening after buying the PoolRx.

Welcome to TFP.

You have copper and silver stains. Vitamin C only works on iron stains. It takes sulfamic acid to remove copper and silver stains.

I suggest you stay out of pool stores and consider adopting TFP methods…

Thank you very much. lots to learn.

So under the pool stroes direction I have added alot of copper to the pool, is there a way to remove the copper without draining the whole pool that works well? The new pool store I went to said the water has so much copper in it that it should be drained and acid etched and then refilled. Im reading about Jacks and maybe it meght work to make some of the metals fall out of solution and vacuumed out?

Thank you, I did take it our after learning that its adding mor metal to the water and that is not good. I also turned off the chorine generator and the stains are dissappearing quite a bit.
The only way to get rid of the copper is to drain water and replace it with freshwater so that’s probably your best bet. If you’ve turned off the chlorine generation, then you’re gonna get algae pretty soon and that’s gonna be even bigger mess.

The stain remover kits require you to drain the water as well after you have removed the stains
