How do I get my TA lower? We have well water and add a bit each week to fill. A pool store sold me Metal Free and said to add 1 capful. My water looks nice and clear. I haven't added the Metal Free yet. Would like to hear feedback first. Thanks!

Are you having issues with scale? Scale flakes from the SWCG?

If not, and you can manage the pH rise due to the TA level, there is no real reason to aggressively lower the TA. Just manage the pH to keep it in the 7's.

@mknauss Where would I find scale flakes? I don't think I see any. If I leave TA be, how often do you recommend I should check pH to keep it in check? Thanks!

Is that Metal Free product they sold me able to help lower TA? I am not sure why they sold it to me at this point. I do not see any staining etc. Does anyone else use a cupful when they top their pool off with well water weekly?

Scale flakes would be in the pool below the return(s).

Check the pH at least a couple times a week. Test the TA when you need to add acid to lower the pH as you need the current TA level for Poolmath.

The Metal stuff is a sequestrant. Does your well water have iron in it? Does not effect TA.

Ok, thanks. Yes a lot of iron in the well water.

To get RID of Iron, put some polyfil in to your skimmers to capture it. You can rinse out the polyfil and put it back in again and again.

To HIDE the iron by putting it into solution, you use the sequestrant. But that doesn't remove any and will have to be redosed often.
