Salt reading jumped up 500ppm after adding boric acid, then back down the next day

New pool here with a Jandy Aquapure 1400. As the title describes, my salinity was showing 3700 (3500 measured at the pool store) prior to adding the prescribed amount of boric acid yesterday. After adding the acid in the deep end and brushing, the salinity reading jumped to 4200ppm and stayed that way for > 12hrs. The next day (today), it's back to reading 3700. All other chemicals were within range except for a high (20) FC reading.

Anyone have an idea as to why?

Boric acid will create some borate in the water. The borate is a charged ion, which increases the conductivity of the water, which makes the salinity reading increase.

Most likely, the concentrated boric acid got sucked into the main drain and spiked the reading.

Always avoid allowing high concentrations of chemicals to get sucked into the main drain.
