Salt level

I moved into a place and have estimated the pool gallons to be about 12-13,000. But I could not get my salt level raised this year anywhere close to where it should be without mass amounts of salt. I'm finally at about 3400ppm. I added 200 lbs yesterday when I was at 2780ppm. Doesn't that seem to be what you'd need to add for a 22,000+ gallon pool? I just don't know why it required so much salt. I certainly didnt turnover half my pool water. I do have kids that splash a TON, so maybe I did through out last year and it got really lower towards the end of the season. But why on earth would it require 200lbs of salt to go from 2700 to 3400? I calibrated my salt tester with a 342ppm bottle I've had for a year. My pool temp is just around 70, could that be giving me false readings? it's been cold and hot, so the temp has been fluctuating a bit so far.

Are you using PoolMath?

PoolMath effects of adding chemicals predicts adding 200 lbs of salt in 13,000 gallons will raise salt by 1838 ppm.

You need to get a K-1766 Taylor Salt Test Something is wrong with your salt tester or calibration.
