So first year pool owner here looking for help. In the last week I have been running my salt cell 100% and can only get up to 4.0FC. PH and CYA in range according to pool math every single test. Some I don’t log. That being said, I was wondering why my pool can’t produce FC so I figured it’s a dirty cell. But after removing, I expected to see build up everywhere but I see this. Is this clean? Or am I missing something and actually dirty. Please help.

If your gallonage is correct and your cell is the IC20 you are undersized. You should have an IC60 for a 30k gallon pool. You should shoot for a rating twice the size of your gallonage for the cell.

ETA IC20 rated for 20k gallons, IC30 30k gallons, IC40 40k, IC60 60k….

The OP's signature says 7900gal, IG, vinyl, 3HP Intelliflo, IC20,

What % are you running the IC20 for how much pump runtime at what pump RPM?

Yes it is 7900 gallons or 30,000 litres.

As for pump time, I run it 24/7 with varying speeds throughout the day/night.

I am stumped as to why I can’t raise my FC. I will try the liquid chlorine to add…but having the salt cell set at 100% with my pump running 24/7, I feel that should at least raise it. A month ago I would set to 65% and it would increase and my maintenance is normally 45%.

I am at a loss.

You should get 11 ppm/day from your cell at 100% for 24 hours.

Have you done a Overnight Chlorine Loss Test?

I see that your FC dropped to 3 and 0.5 before you had this problem. I think you have some algae in the pool.

Have you done the SLAM Process before?

It’s 30,000 litres 7900 gal

I might have to do an oclt. And depending on that, may have to slam. I was hoping it was something else though.

To answer your question, haven’t done a slam or oclt, like ever.

Do you have liquid chlorine?

If so add enough to get your FC over 5 ppm for the OCLT.

At 3 ppm the chlorine loss may be a rounding error and inconclusive.
