Safe to use DWV and/or Flexible PVC for backwash discharge pipe?

Hi all,

I have to replumb my sand filter backwash. I'm not a plumber at all. I'm struggling a bit to be honest as the space is a bit confined. Would it be a terrible idea to use DWV fittings? Or should I only use schedule 40? The previous pipe used DWV fittings and didn't seem to have any issues that I noticed. I think using DWV fittings would help me a bit as the street fittings help in tighter areas and not of my local hardware stores seem to sell 22.5 schedule 40 fittings (they only sell 22.5 DWV). Also, I'm considering using flexible PVC (or flexible spa hose as I've also seen it called) for a portion of it. That would make it much easier in this confined area.

For what it's worth, I'm going to have a little over 4' of 1 1/2 PVC with a couple of 90's. This will feed into a 4" PVC pipe. So there shouldn't be much pressure I would think.

Is this a huge no go? Should I only be using sched 40?

Backwash has no pressure (or shouldn't). It is technically a 'waste' line. So DWV is fine for backwash.
