Safe swim levels

So I did venture on the deep end and found the enlightening articles about the interrelation between CYA, chlorine, Ph. They helped me understand why my pool was cloudy despite high chlorine levels (high CYA and PH). The bacterial vs algae lines are excellent references.

What would be really helpful is help understanding if situations that make high levels of chlorine still safe to swim in. Namely, if the chlorine is inactivated by high VYA and PH levels, would it mean that swimming is safe at higher chlorine levels, or does it mean that as CYA levels grow, you will have to wait longer after SLAM (which require higher levels of chlorine) before chlorine levels drop back to "safe", under 4 levels?

Is there a good way to think about this? Notably, with my current readings of 13.5 Free Chlorine, 7.6 Ph, 40 CYA and 110 Alkalinity, and at 76 F temperature, how low do I need to wait for chlorine, before I dip back in the pool? It's sweltering this week!

The general rule is that as long as the FC is in between your minimum and SLAM maximum, it is safe to swim in (assuming you can see the bottom, but this is for physical swimmer safety).

With 40 CYA your SLAM level is 16 PPM FC. You're fine at 13.5 to go swim.

I dose to 14-15 before an expected heavy bather load.

I like it when someone suggests adding chlorine, since I dont have any, because they can't smell it.
