Hello all,

My 5 year old dolphin s300i died, mostly related to the cable, i think spending $200 on cable + all the replacements parts (most wearable parts need replacing) might not make sense on a 5 year old unit (opinions??)

That being said what should i replace it with? Looking to spend around $1k, wireless sounds fun but not sure if the tech is ready for prime time but again im not sure so asking the pros.

I just had my Active 30i quit, signs point toward the motor, but it is 8 yrs old so I guess I can not complain. It spent most of the summer in the pool unless we were in it. It suffered from many of the complaints listed on the forum like cord tangling, hanging up on the drain, blue tooth connection poor, app poorly designed, no automation mode needs at least 2 runs to clean the entire pool, I think their pool mapping was a total flop. But I hate vacuuming the pool and it cleaned it very well and I knew I had to replace it. The pool also had a pressure side cleaner before I bought the house but pump and cleaner was missing. So the options were side cleaner or robot for me. Because I get some very fine silt looking material that the robot collected the pressure side cleaner was out for me. Others say the electrical cost of operating side cleaner also offset the cost of robot every 2-3 years. Wireless robot sounded real good to me, but reviews so far sounds like they are not quite ready for prime time and are expensive. So that left me with corded robot. Out of the robots the Maytronics Active 20/ S200 (other names also for basically the same robot) was going to be my choice as relatively inexpensive and has automation mode which would allow me to program it to run several times during the night with a smart plug. However, It appears Maytronic cleaners are now failing frequently after 3-5 years, so after reading jmrahbe review above and some other posts and speaking with Margret at Marina I just got the EVO 614iq. The biggest drawback is I can only set the robot to clean 1x per night, hopefully they address that with a future software app update, but who knows. However, the positives are I think cleaning the filter of the Evo will be much easier/ faster and not as wet as the S200. I was going the purchase the fine filter but Margret suggested I wait as her personal experience with the Evo 614iq with the standard filter cleans comparably as well as Maytronics . It has 2 motors so it should not hang up on the bottom drain, the design of the swivel is much better and will be easier/faster to untangle. It also has a setting that will bring it to the side of the pool and empty the water so not as heavy and wet when removing. Cost from Marina $849, amazon sells it for $799 but I bought from Marina for future customer service/warrantee issues. Price for S200 $899. Hope this helps in making your decision. Let us know what you choose and why.
