I have an issue there was a storm blowing in right after we put up our new pool . We had the fire dept. come and fill up the pool so that it wouldn’t blow off . Now it is full of rust water how do I remove the rust out of the water!? Its going to be a salt water pool

21000 gallon … it’s a lot
Yeah, that IS a lot.

Still, the iron does not easily come out. Metal "removers" don't really remove the iron simply put it into soluble form but it's still there.

You can try putting polyfill in the skimmers to catch some of the iron but that usually doesn't work well either.

You might want to read up on ascorbic acid treatment or simply wait for the refill water in your pool to eventually dilute the iron content,

You might call the City and see how much they'll charge fo a complete fill through your meter.

Filling from a fire truck, the water typically comes from a hydrant, which comes from the city water piping. With domestic use the flow is usually slow. Then when the truck fills, it creates a flow of a few hundred gpm, so it stirs up rust and sediment from that iron piping. For firefighting, doesn’t matter, but it does in your pool. And gone are the days when the municipal water department flushed the hydrants monthly to keep it clean.
