Hey all I’ve noticed these rust looking spots on the plaster a year or so ago but it seems as though more are popping up. Could this be a cause of some Milogranite fertilizer pellets falling in the water when I fertilize my yard since there is iron in the product. I do spread cautiously to avoid getting any in the pool but some still fall in though it would t explain why the spots are on the wall if the pellets usually land near the steps. I’t almost looks as if the piece of rusty metal is embedded in the plaster. I’ve read the vitamin c tab option but how exactly do you is it just keep rubbing a tab on the spots?

Put a handful of plain Vitamin C tablets in a thin sock. Crush them up a bit. Hold the sock against the stain.
To check for metal, hold a magnet over the spot and see if it indicates metal.

So I bought chewable vitamin C tabs no difference after rubbing the sock with them crushed inside of it on the areas. Also the magnet did not stick.

OK -- You set the sock on them for a few minutes, but it should lighten it.

Hard to say. Iron is normally what those spots are, either from something that fell in the pool or in the plaster mix.

Hi there,

I am having the same issue and I recently put down some milorganite, starting to think some reached the pool steps. Did you manage to remove them? Vitamin C did not work for me.

Hi,
No luck on my end. I was unable to get them removed. The vitamin C tabs didn’t work nor could I get a magnet to stick to them. Everytime I vacuum I think I’ve missed a spot and go over them thinking it’s a spec of dirt, lol.
