Matrix 24’ round pool with saltwater system. Pool is 5 years old. We have noticed rust at the base of the walls along. The exterior (see photo). Think this is being caused by water splashing over the top while swimming.. any ideas how we could minimize any further damage and prolong life of pool?0D9E7ECD-DC5A-4CE1-BD47-07047A4C0B39.jpeg

Welcome to TFP.

Rusting pool walls is like cancer. Once you see signs of it the rust is probably acro0ss much of the inside walls.

Not much you can do now until you replace the liner and see what the insides look like and the thickness of the remaining metal walls.

Rust neutralizer can be applied if you caught it early enough and there is enough meat left on the walls.

Thanks for welcome. Funny thing is, this is a resin pool set that was supposed to be treated to prevent this from happening. Argh.

We will see if anyone with experience with your pool has other ideas.

I bought a steel walled pool last year that is salt water compatible and yes I bought a SWG; seeing things like this makes me sorry I did! Is this all around the pool or is it in one area? If in one area maybe it's not too bad and using rust neutralizer and some paint (?) to cover the area will stop the spread. I would also probably start rinsing the bottom track with fresh water regularly to get rid of any salt buildup to stop/slow the corrosion process.
