I am installing 3 sheer descents that are using a separate pump which is not connected to the main filter. I am installing a Jandy energy filter and really don’t think I need to use the rock traps that came with the SD’s. It seems the strainer basket in the pump or the Jandy filter would stop any rocks. Thoughts?

Depends how things are plumbed.
You would be surprised what people find in their return pipes and get through the pump and filter.
Also, people find plaster coming out of their pipes months or years after it was done.
Also, if you have a SWG it can throw off scale that can get stuck in your sheers. And things can break in your heater or SWG that can send pieces of parts into your returns.
The rock traps are cheap insurance. If something gets stuck in yoru sheers you may find it very difficult to clear.
