Hello
I purchased my SWG in July 2023. It ran with no problems till I turned it off for a winter. In March 2024, I wanted to start up the system, but it was reading low salt (even with a water temperature of 70°F and a salt level of 3800 ppm). Cleaned up the cell multiple times with no luck. I sent it for a warranty and Discount Salt Pool replaced it with a new one. Fast forward to March 2025......wanted to start the system AND same error. The cell is reading only 1700 ppm while the salt level is at 3600, water temp 69F
Of course the first thing I did was clean the cell multiple times, even though it appeared to be clean. Nada.
I reached out to Discount Salt Pool where they opened a new RMA for the complete system (controller and cell), and told me because I'm in my 2nd year, I'll have to pay 80%

Now the question is.....should I do it or should I go with a different system?

I'm always keeping my pool chemistry in balance, and the system was working flawlessly throughout the season.

Frustrated:/

Never clean the cell without visible buildup.

Never ever ever clean the cell multiple times without visible buildup.

Make sure the “lump” in the cell is facing down so the entire bit of plates is always under water. Also as noted above, cleaning the cell with any kind of acid should be avoided as it ruins the plates.

I forgot to mention that Discount Salt Pool instructed me to clean it again :/

I was following their instructions using 1 part acid 4 parts water. What can be used instead of acid?

Are you sure you're paying 80% and not 20% for the pro rata?
You are correct...20%, typo.

I wonder why I'm having these issues two springs in a row. Tech on the phone didn't have the answer for me:/

If you can see the plates and they don’t have white scale all over them, then please don’t clean them. The acid just eats away the precious metals from the plates. Meaning you have to replace the Cell much sooner than you would have otherwise.

I’d take the 20% and get a new one
