Right way to mount the pool light

So Cal
Hello,
Every time I put the light back after repair I I’ve alway had a hard time make it sit tight. I usually put the hook (pic below) of the light (pentair 5g) behind the tabs of the niche (weird looking tabs as in pic below) then crew in the bolt through the hole on the opposite side. But the hook always slides off the tabs and the light doesn’t sit tight against the wall.

Then I watched several YouTube clips, everyone just use the one bolt to secure the light and not bothered with the hook/tabs on the other side. Is that the correct way? What is the hook on the light for?

What makes it more difficult for me is the screw hole is not at the top of the niche but at 2 o’clock position, and not draining the water.

The pic not from my pool

Thx

So your niche is turned a bit. That's not an issue.
Screw/clamp on the light fixture should be about 90 degrees off from the screw mounting hole.
If the mounting screw is at 2, the clamp screw should be at 5, and the tab should be at 7.
The hook/tab should be inserted and seating properly in the niche first.
The press the light against the niche. It should seat flush and the mounting screw hole should align.
No need to drain water.

Yes the tab is at around 7, 180 degree from the mounting hole. I’m afraid because of the 2 o’clock position of the mounting screw gravity just rotate the assembly to its natural position, and move the hook out of the tab. Don’t remember where the clamp screw is but not interfere with anything.

I think I need to modify the hook, maybe adding something to it so it can rest between the 2 tabs without sliding out so easily.

Thx
