Reuse sand after lateral replacement?

Is there any reason not to reuse the sand from the filter after removing it to replace laterals?

Since you don't know what kind of clarifiers or floc the previous owner might have been using, I would change it. I don't suggest changing sand out of routine, but since you are already going to have to remove it to fix the lateral it wouldn't hurt anything to put in some fresh sand that you will know has never been gummed up or anything of that sort.
