return jets popping out?

We purchased some knock-in/slip in jets for our pool - it didn't have them when we got the pool, so not sure exactly what was in there before. In 1 of the returns, we had to knock in in with a rubber mallet. In 2 others, we used some rubber tape to get them to stay put and not pop out when the pump kicks on. Last one wants to keep popping out.

Am I missing something? do other people routinely use rubber tape to get the slip in jets to stay put?

Assuming they are the correct size, they should stay put if you push them in far enough. You might try scuffing up the two surfaces with wet sandpaper so they are not as smooth.
