Back side of my pool has a retaining wall. They did two rows of drainage one at footer and another half way up. They then back filled all with gravel. Drains great and when it rains the two pipes really flow. My question is the entire perimeter of the pool deck is set back about a foot from wall and always all water to drain through gravel and into pipes. A lot of the walls I see they have the deck flush to the wall and pass through drains. Any opinions on this?

I think over time that gap between the deck and the wall will fill in with dirt, mud, balls, pool, toys, critter homes, etc. and the drainage will get poor. It will become an annual clean out chore.
