[RESOLVED] Chlorine tabs usage question

Hi,

I have a salt water pool (sale level 3600), and when SWG stoped working in Nov due to low temp, I removed SWG and enabed in-line Chlorine feeder, added ~10 of the 2-in chlorine tabs that I got from Leslie's, set the output to be 3.5 out of 5.

I checked the tabs level every 1-2 weeks, and to my surprised, after enabling it for almost 2 months, only 2 tabs were used, and the in-line feeder is still pretty full. My recent FC tests (Taylor K-2000C) always shows FC at ~9.0, pH at 7.5-8, CYA 90, TA 110 (CYA and TA has been pretty stable).

Is the usage as expected? I was expecting it to use many of the tabs, and got the biggest bucket from Leslie's...

Seems about right. I use a smallish container with a floating tab dispenser and that will usually last me 1-2 winters. Note that I also use liquid chlorine depending on my CYA.

At a CYA of 90, I would limit the use of tabs since each those 2 tabs will have raised your CYA by 5 to 95.

Each 8oz Trichlor tablet will give you 4.3 ppm or FC and 3 ppm of CYA.

Your pool doesn’t need much FC in the winter. 1ppm per week is not surprising.
