We purchased a home with a pool and have been maintaining it ourselves for about 6 months with the help of this site (thank you). We are ready to attempt to clean the filter cartridges. The problem is our pool equipment is in a below grade enclosed room that is only 64" high. Our pool filter is a Pentair CCP520 which, according to the manual, needs a vertical clearance of 74" in order to get the filter cover off to service the cartridges. This equipment is not new (the house is 12 years old) and I'm sure it has been serviced before but we don't know how they managed taking the filter cover off.

Does anyone have experience with a Pentair filter in a too-short space? Is it possible to maneuver the cover off in the short space? I really don't want to have to disconnect the water inlet and outlet connections and drag the filter outside of the room.

TW,

I have the CCP-520, but have plenty of room above it... I don't plan to disassemble my filter to test my theory, but here it is anyway...

As you lift the top off, I suspect that you will be able to tilt it off to the side.. the higher you lift it the more you will be able to tilt it..

In any case, I don't think there is any migic here.. either the top comes off, or it does not... Give it a try and see what happens..

I only clean my filter once a year.. I do it myself, but If I had a low ceiling like you do, I'd want someone to help me remove the top.. At least for the first time.

Thanks,

Jim R.
