Hello. I've received three quotes from reputable companies in my area (Maryland) to replaster my pool with WetEdge Prism Matrix. All recommend just removing the plaster around the tile and other fixtures (lights, etc.) and replastering over that with WetEdge as opposed to removing all of the plaster. Our current plaster is in decent shape but heavily stained and about 20 years old so ready for renovation. My question is whether that's the right approach as opposed to full plaster removal and replacement. I've read conflicting opinions on the internet (no surprise there). Thanks!

It’s always better to remove old plaster, especially if it’s at the end of its normal life. The issue can be that it starts to delaminate from the gunite but isn’t always obvious where that has happened. So if you put new material on top of that, it can just continue to delaminate and wreck the new finish and leak. Also, when the pool is drained, cracks and more loose plaster can be caused by the jackhammering in other areas.

It all depends on your risk tolerance and how deep your pockets are.
