Hi all! Just has pool replastered 48 hours ago by a very reputable PB and we are really happy. We know that plaster has some natural issues but we have some that are bizzare. I have Googled for photos and cannot find any that clearly show a newly replastered pool with colored plaster where you can really see the plaster job. There are a lot of pics but have so much water movement you cannot see the bottom.

I have found photos of extreme cases of bad plastering, but not what a normal job should look like. Our PB's crews did an amazing prep job including FULL chipping- not spot, did washing, etching, primer coats, masking- I mean they did everything this forum said to do. However, just seems like the plaster isn't right, especially in the shallow-end. It's a light blue plaster and I know it was never to be a perfect, uniform color like house or car paint, but just seems odd.

PB is VERY responsive, readily emails, owning the job and have someone coming tomorrow despite the holiday to look at it. They aren't dodging me at all. I think I just want some basis to speak intelligently about this situation and maybe it will just fade with our continued 2-3x a day brushing and the PB's chemical management for the next 30 days.

Note I'm not one of those self-aggrandized types who seek unrealistic and impossible perfection- I'm not an engineer or chemist, but have worked in manufacturing and also with materials before retiring so I know what comes with weather, environment and so forth. Posting some photos. Thank you all for anything you can share.

Yeah, your plaster looks blotchy. Not the swirling mottling we usually see.

I doubt it will fade or brushing will do anything.

First of all it is only cosmetic. If you don't mind the character of the ;look then accept it and move on. That is what I would do.

Your builder will offer to do an acid wash. That will remove a thin layer of plaster and the plaster underneath may be more uniform. It will also weaken the plaster and remove a few years off its life.

Alternatively they could drain the pool and power sand the plaster with diamond sanding pads. This is much better for the plaster but much more labor and cost for the builder.

How deep is your pool? If you can reach the bottom sand an area with 80/100 grit wet/dry sandpaper and see how the plaster you uncover looks.

Thank you for the insight and that it's probably just cosmetic. The big circles just looked weird and have not found a single web photo of anything similar, which made me more concerned. Agreed- rather just let it mellow if it's just sloppy drops of colored plaster from the end of their application hose. I have a ceiling sanding disk so may do a test hand-sanding of one of them. Just sort of a disappointment that we have a nice pool light again and dread seeing the big circles stand out. I guess we can pretend they are bubbles. Just worried too a little about resale as being retired, we want to stay here for a good while but will have to sell at some point. Thank you again!
