Replastered DiamondBrite Pool

Hi everyone. Had my 48k gunite pool replastered about a three weeks ago with DiamondBrite French Gray plaster. No one has stepped into pool yet but it’s been maintained and kept balanced.

PH: 7.4
TA: 70
CH: 400
Chlorine via TFP process

We just noticed this small chip about an inch long and half an inch wide in the deep end. We contacted the pool company that performed the work and he is claiming that this is due to poor maintenance. I keep the pool balanced with a TF test kit with new chemicals and no one has yet even stepped into the pool.

Is there a way to make a DiamondBrite repair without draining the pool? This is in the deep end near the drains, so about 9 feet down.

Thanks for your feedback on what could be wrong as well. Wife seems to believe that this is where the water trucks started their water fill but the pool plasterer doesn’t believe so.

Are you sure the dent wasnt there before filling? It doesnt look like something poor maintanence could do so quickly. It is possible a water hose or something else could has done it.

Not much you can do on the warrenty thing unless you havent paid the final payment, the warranties are kind of a joke in that way.

Thank you Bperry. The water was filled the same day, about two hours after a team of about a dozen people applied and smoothed out the plaster. We didn’t notice anything at the time.

Guess the operative question is whether this is repairable at all without draining. Not sure if mixing up a patch of DiamondBrite plaster would stick underwater?

Im not aware of any patch that will stick underwater other than the marine epoxy, but even that is temporary.

My diamond brite was acid washed the next day after application. They really filled it 2 hours later? Seems kinda soon.

To me it looks the same color as the rest of the pool. That means it was there when the plaster was put in the pool. I don't think there is any way to repair it with out chipping out the plaster, filling the chip and doing a replaster. I don't think I would worry about it. Now if you can see in real life that there is no plaster in that chip then that is a different story.

Thanks so much for all the feedback. I finally got into pool for the first time and confirmed it is indeed a hole. Looks like this may be from the water will guy as this is exactly where he landed the water from the first truck.

I asked why they filled only two hours later citing this thread and that others do even next day to give it some drying time and they answered that if you don’t add water right away, the plaster is susceptible to cracks.

In any case they confirmed this cannot be repaired without draining water which I can’t do now. They will come back in the fall when I’m closing up the pool and will patch then. That way I can just slowly fill up from a hose halfway and then let the snow do the rest over the winter.

Thanks everyone for your feedback and help!IMG_4615.jpeg
