Replacing Sand Increased Pressure????

My husband spent the day yesterday replacing the sand in our sand filter. Once completed, we backwashed and rinsed and then let it rip. However, we were surprised to see the pressure gauge running at 24-25 psi. It's important to note that we did have to also replace the pressure gauge as the other stopped working. However, when it worked last year it ran at 19psi and we backwashed when it hit 24-25.

So my questions are:
Is it normal for psi to increase upon replacing the sand in the sand filter?

If it is not normal, could it be the difference in pressure gauges?

If "no" to both questions, any ideas what the cause if increased pressure could be?

TIA

It could be that there is more sand now. That would do it.

24-25 is a little high for most systems. I think I would backwash once more and see if it lowers.

What size pump and what size filter do you have?
