Replacing old DE filter

Friends,

I have a 30K gallon salt water pool with liner. The pool was built before we purchased the home. I suspect the pool is ~15-20 years old. I’ve already replaced the pump, and now I’d like to replace the DE filter.

The current filter is a Hayward DE-3600. I’ve already replaced the valve and the filter fins. The current problem is it doesn’t filter well and when I add DE to the skimmers, most all of the DE ends up back in the pool (on the floor). I suspect I have a cracked manifold or some other issue.

I’m attaching a picture of the current set up. Would you recommend a new filter? If so, which one? I’m thinking about the Hayward DEP 100. I have a budget of around $1,000. I mainly want low maintenance, effective filtering, and long-term value.

Thank you.

Consider a cartridge filter. The biggest you can afford and fit on your equipment pad. Probably get away with cleaning it once or twice a year if sized appropriately. Pentair Clean and Clear Plus are good filters. They are in short supply due to the overall pool equipment shortage.

Thank you for the replies. I like the idea of a cartridge filter — seems that would be a little easier than what I have now. I will increase budget if needed to get the best long term value. What about the Hayward brand cartridge filters? I’ve been looking at a Hayward W3C5030 cartridge filter.

Filters are pretty universal. If that filter looks good for your situation, it will work fine.
