I've got a Hayward Tristar with a dead motor as of yesterday. It's mated with an Aquatronics panel I cannot afford to replace right now.
The pump age is approximately 10 years. I've replaced the seals twice in 5 years, but I think it's at its lifespan given the Texas heat its endured.
I've been considering a variable speed for at least two years now, so my question is this -
Which variable speed has proven to be the most reliable in hot and dry climate?
Also - having done some reading - my current pump is 1.5HP. If I went with a 3hp pump and ran it at half speed 24/7 is that a viable thing to do?
Pool is full sun almost all day, standard chlorination, no saltwater yet, lots of debris flying around so I need to run it frequently to keep the sediment down, 16000 gallons with spa.
All the local pool stores here, and the handful of independent pool folks all seem to sell Pentair here.
Would a Hayward or Pentair fare better in these conditions? Also, since I don't have an SWG, should I consider Variable Speed/Variable flow, or just stick with variable speed?
There are so many pump options out there and I realize I'm asking a somewhat subjective question - any guidance would be appreciated as I need to get this replaced ASAP.
