Hello all,

I have approx 15K gal IG pool (15'x30') w/ built in over-flow spa for which I need a replace my Hayward SP2300VSP Max-Flo VS pump, which is connected to an Intermatic T104P timer. The Max-Flo has met my needs for 9 years but now appears to have a bad control board, in which there appear to be no user-serviceable parts, but the other components of the pump appear to be in good working condition.

I've had two recommendations that I'm considering:

1) From @1poolman1, in a previous thread troubleshooting my Max-Flo; who said a "good alternative for you would be a V-Green 165 (motor). It will operate very similarly to the pump you have and can be used with a timeclock". I believe the compatible V-Green model for my Max-Flo is the ECM16SQU.

2) From a friend's pool guy, who recommended a 1.5hp VS Hayward MaxFlo XE ($1,395 installed); with 1 yr warranty. He also quoted me $695 on the V-Green ($485 + $210 installation).

I definitely want a variable speed pump.
The pool pump & filter are about 15' from the pool.
Size of the plumbing: 1.5"

Spa Details:
Size: 4' x 7'
Number of jets: 5

As @tstex suggested, I'm posting this new thread seeking a fresh set of eyes and a new perspective on what to get to replace my Max-Flo.

All of your thoughts and advice are greatly appreciated!

Hayward Tristar 900 VPS. Wire it direct bypassing the timer (240). Has a controller on board to set schedules. 4 Year warranty if installed by Hayward dealer.

Nothing is as good as new except new. Can't go wrong with a larger Hayward pump. If you're happy with the performance you have, a new motor is a good alternative.
