I’ve been through 3 mx8 over the years and have replaced parts in between. I also have a skimmer motion to keep the surface clean. My pool is screen enclosed so no large debris enters the water and it’s a 13 x 19 ft pool. Also my vacuum lives in the water, I never take it out.
My vac does what it needs but I’m tired of the constant replacement so is there something out there that does not require so much maintenance/replacement and also skim the water?

What is a "skimmer motion?"
Pool vacuums clean the bottom and sometimes the wall. The skimmer clears the water surface. Is your cleaner attached at the skimmer or a dedicated port in the pool wall?
Those MX8 cleaners are complicated mechanisms.
If you want a suction cleaner that is much simpler but works well, the Baracuda G3 (one moving part) or the Kreepy Krauley Classic (one moving part) are good choices.
The Hayward AqauNaut or "the Pool Cleaner" and the Pentair Rebel are also very good, though more moving parts.

my vac is attached to my skimmer. The skimmer motion is attached near the end of the hose closest to the vacuum.

The barracuda was my first vac and it always got stuck in one spot so it does not work for me
The Hayward and Pentair cleaners are wheel driven and back up so as to not get stuck. Still, what is a "skimmer motion?" Never heard of that.
What size pump are you using? A Pentair "Vac-Mate" properly adjusted will allow a pool to both skim and use a suction cleaner. They install at the skimmer. They work best with a U3 skimmer or equivalent. You probably have a U3.
