Repairing lateral assembly with what glue?

Hey guys,
Bought a house with a pool (my first pool) and it has an older ‘98 Sta-Rite sand filter.
It was spraying sand through the return at the end of last summer and after some reading discovered the laterals probably needed repairing.
When I took the sand filter apart I discovered two of the laterals had come off completely because the part they screw into had partly split at the seam. Given the cost to replace the part (170 + shipping) I was wondering if it would feasible to glue/ clamp it with pvc glue or something similar. Thanks so much!

Hello and welcome to TFP! $170? Yeah, I'd be grabbing everything out of the garage first. Ha. I suppose you could use a variety of products. Anything from pool epoxy to JB Weld on that thing as long as you are able to clamp the two halves down together with the lateral installed while it cures. But let's get another opinion if you haven't already super-glued that thing together. :)

@Bama Rambler, got any tricks for this one?

If you repair it and it fails (pretty likely......that's a complex task) then you will remove the sand (again) and still have to buy new. I imagine it is ABS plastic and not just any glue will adhere to it. I would buy the new assembly and be done with it.

That's likely ABS as Dave said or some type poly(ethelene, urethane, etc.) However I'd personally be willing to do a little work to repair it for $170. They probably heat welded it together at the factory.

The good news is that you could actually bolt it together by drilling small holes in the hub between the lateral ports and using stainless steel bolts and nuts. 1/8" or 3/16" bolts would hold fine. It doesn't have to be a perfect seal as long as it's close enough that the sand won't pour through the slit.

Having said all that, Here's that collector hub assembly for about $50 and free shipping for Prime.
Sta-Rite Sand Filter Collector Hub.
