Removing Jets

Is there a trick to removing the jet assemblies like the one pictured below? I think there’s some construction debris or plaster in the pipe behind it and want to remove it to see if I can flush it out. I’ve tried unscrewing it and that doesn’t seem to be the answer.

(No, I don’t drain the spa regularly. Had some work done on the spillover today so had to use the drain/fill functions to cycle the water.)

I do believe the outer ring must unscrew so the jet assembly can be removed.

I’ve tried unscrewing, but haven’t had any luck. I’ll try it again and see if I can get it loose. I unfortunately don’t know what brand the pool builder used.

A car oil filter wrench will work. The rubber one or even the kind that people with arthritis use to open jars.
