I bought a Calimar 3.0hp VSP from PoolSupplyUnlimited and have been happy with it so far. The manual wasn't precisely clear so it took a little trial and error to completely understand operating characteristics. I likewise had a Hayward 1.5 single speed Super Pump and it was over-driving my Pentair sand filter and putting sand in my pool. On this TFP site, people suggested getting the 3hp VSP and running it at lower speeds to save electricity, so far it's been working as desired, I'm saving about $50/month. I bought and installed a Blue-White flow meter from Amazon to get precise about flow and speeds. The Calimar was cheap enough that I bought the 3yr extended warranty with it. With new Hayward VSP's at $1200, it was a fairly easy decision. Good luck in your search...
