Relocating Pump and Filter - What do I need to consider?

Before I move my filter and pump, I would like to know what a pump/filter setup is supposed to look like because I can't rely on refferencing what I currently have. Should I have some way of blowing the lines out for winterizing? My neighbor said I should, but I don't. What's a good source to reference for pool plumbing at the pump?
