Bought our home with pre-existing pool in 2020, finally got around to inspecting/cleaning the heater recently. We live in Wisconsin, so only in use May to September or so. Tons of rust on the floor of the heater, removed burner tray and while it still is holding the burners, it's hanging on by a thread. I think I can order a replacement tray for $300 or so. Wondering a) if that is worth or should I wait for something to fail and b) any ideas as to why all the rust? Maybe the gas pressure to the heater is too low and it is not burning up all the condensation? The heat exchanger looks great and there is no rust or discoloration on it at all. Just want to figure out how to prevent the cause of the rust before I go and replace the burner tray. I'm not sure how old the heater is, but the pool is 25+ years old. Heater has to be newer than that. It is a Rheem/Raypak 206A.
