Random question, Trichlor and CYA levels. Why every use it?

So how do you use the pucks for the waterline stain on tile???? Rub them??

Water line stain doesn't sound like organic stains to me. Organic stains end up on the bottom of the pool, from leaves and nuts resting on the bottom.

I'm reading threads now, but what should I do for a brownish waterline mark on my tile? Scrubbing with brush helps but I can still see where it was in some spots.

Not sticky or gummy, light brown. I'll see if I can get it to show on a picture, because our tile also has a tan swirl to it.
This is a new IG pool this summer, so just wondering. Fighting CYA after pool store pucks and shock start up care.

Have you used products with copper (algaecides, or products with "Blue" in the name).
Do you have iron in your water?
