New pool owner here, got pool up and running last week. I noticed when Suction side is set to suction from pool and hot tub, when the pump turns off, the water in raised hot tub starts to drain out. Is this normal? Should there be a check valve in the pool suction to prevent the jacuzzi from draining back to pool?
I know water is trying to equalize itself, so water falls in jacuzzi to same level of pool.
Check valve need?

Welcome to the forum!
Typically the Suction side valve is either full ON Pool or Spa. So no check valve is needed on that side. If you plan to leave the Return side such that you get spa spillover when in Pool mode, then yes, you need a check valve on that side.
I suggest you read through Pool Care Basics - Trouble Free Pool and even look at a few of our videos TFP-TV - Trouble Free Pool
