So I just joined and have the testing kit. Long post but I think my pool is pretty cool. Have been able to maintain a freshly filled pool for over a month at proper levels of minimal chemical use. Very mild temps here and was opened early due to pool improvements. We got 2 1/2 inches of rain on Tuesday and now my pool has turned slightly green. Can barely see 11’ bottom but before was crystal clear. My last tests showed low cya levels so I added the recommended stabilizer. And now my cya level is slightly high 60-70 range. Chlorine is 5.5 but it’s the first time I got a cc reading and it took a single drop to clear instantly, so a .5 cc. So total chlorine 6. Is it really time to slam? It’s saying 3 gallons for my 18,000 pool. I just want to stay ahead and not have to get into a pool fight. My flow rate stays at 35 to just shy of 40. Run all day. Northwest Ohio weather. Pool is 11’ deep 24x12 composite decking construction. All hawyard 1.5 hp single rate to sand filter to 250k propane heater to chlorinator. Robotic pool skimmer and vacuum. Have a single return with great water surface swirl and drain in floor and upper wall. All plumbed over the side. Pool is constructed of large cement blocks and a Kevlar reinforced barn silo liner covered with unfastened tongue and grove composite decking pressure fit at bottom to maintain shape. I’m pretty committed to this darn thing. I’ve never had the struggles I’ve had in the last two years. It’s always after a big rain then a back and forth fight. I need help. How do I stay in front of it? My levels were and are so good I thought. Here’s some pics just before the rain and two days later.

Welcome to TFP.

You have a good test kit whihc is great. Now use it to maintain the correct FC/CYA ratio.

With a green pool you have to follow the SLAM Process and get your pool algae free.

The follow the FC/CYA chart in...

and run on the high side of the FC range for your CYA.

Consider getting a SWG to chlorinate your pool.
