We have received and narrowed down our bids to two contractors. We are doing a 6" raised perimeter flow spa attached to our pool. One contactor wants to add a booster pump to better flood the spa overflow. He said that because of the rectangular design (8x6' internal) it can be very difficult to get all the corners level thus you may see uneven overflow but by adding a pump it will easily push enough water where you can't tell if something is slightly out of level. Has anyone experienced this issue with their spa construction? We will most likely be using larger porcelain tiles for the spa which i know makes getting everything more challenging. The pump is an extra $2000 so it is a fairly good chunk of change that the other contractor does not initially say we need. Plus you have the cost of running the pump and down the road cost of maintenance/replacement. Additionally we are looking to do a tighter 2" reveal gap around the spa instead of a 4-5" trough. Maybe the extra pump would allow us to push more water and flush out the spa channel more. Thanks for the feedback and advise.

Often cool things are very cool, but just not practical in real life.
A spa that overflows on all 4 sides is going to take a lot of water flow to make the overflow work. I tend to agree with your pool builder.
The whole point of a spillover spa is not to look cool, but rather to keep fresh water in your spa. Most overflows run continually any time you are in the Pool mode. With a separate pump you would have the ability to turn the overflow on and off and run it on a schedule.
In my mind, even a 5" gap is too small.. How do you plan to clean the junk that will constantly get in that cool looking gap?
$2K is a pretty small percentage of any pool build.
