Questions for first-time SLAM

Passed the OCLT this morning. Thanks be to God!

Jamie,

I am so sorry I have not responded. It's been a busy two days as we prepare for my oldest son's birthday party tomorrow. He wanted a pool party with his friends so there will be ten, 11-yr old boys swimming in my pool. I may be SLAM'ing after that event ;)

I was going to write to you and say that I think you're near the end but it seems you have come to that conclusion all on your own!! Congratulations!!!

Now just let your FC drift back down slowly. Your IC-60 produces 2lbs of chlorine gas per day. So in your 28k gallon pool, that's ~ 8.6ppm FC per day. So, if you were to assume your worst-case scenario of chlorine loss at 4ppm per day, you'd need to run your pump and SWG (at 100%) for 12 hours per day to keep up. Your pool should be a fair bit cleaner than that so try to target your chlorine production with a loss of 3ppm/day. If you need to, bleach supplementation is fine.

This is your first season with the pool so it's going to be a major learning process as you get to know how your water reacts. There are other things we can do to help make your pool manageable but we really need to get a season of pool use under your belt so that we know the right thing to do. Unfortunately for you that means juggling the demands of your six older kids, your new baby and life in general with pool care. You're going to need help on this, so it's time for the older ones to be responsible and help mom test the water and keep the pool clean.

How's your baby boy doing? Our little Ariela is 3 months now (so hard to believe) and my wife starts back at work next week. Suffice it to say she is absolutely terrified of leaving her precious baby in my care and is seriously contemplating getting a nanny for her. I told her I am more than capable of caring for the baby....there is no problem that can't be fixed with a shopvac and some duct tape :salut:

Funny, that didn't really seem to make her feel any better......

Thank you for checking in, Matt. I sure know about life getting busy! I hope the birthday party is a success.

Thanks for the tips on how to dial in the SWG. I'm probably going to err on the high side for awhile. One SLAM is enough for me! We swam today and we're glad to see our crystal clear water back even though it had never really gotten that bad. But it makes me think we had been on a gradual slide for longer than I knew and I was just ignoring the little signs. It's good to be back.

Thanks for asking about the baby. Our little Andrew is doing very well. He'll be 6 weeks on Sunday and is already sleeping most of the night (sometimes 8 hrs) without waking. I'd heard others say their babies did that and was a little skeptical, but now I'm enjoying it myself! Who knows how long it will last, but I won't complain. :) I'm glad your little princess is doing so well too. I can imagine it would be hard for your wife to leave her, and I can completely understand how your reassurances might have fallen a little flat with her. ;-) What a lucky dad you are to get to care for Ariela... I'm sure she'll be in great hands.
