When ozone systems are designed and configured properly, they can reduce chlorine usage, ie, you would need to use your cell less. The problem is, ozone systems are rarely ever plumbed properly into the pools overall hydraulic system and older model ozone generators were terrible at producing ozone or being repairable. The newer model ozone systems are finally being constructed in a modular fashion so that the corona discharge (CD) units that produce O3 are field replaceable and the systems tell you when the CD module has gone bad. But that only solves the equipment side of the problem.

I too would recommend abandoning the ozone system as it's very likely not doing anything useful.

I use water softener salt when I need to add salt. Get it at Home Depot. Just be sure it is plain.

I saw this-seemed really cheap and 99.8% pure. It’s in pellet form-is this good enough?

As long as it does not have iron inhibitors. The bag I buy Is blue in color.

Pellets will work too, they’ll just take a longer time to dissolve.
