Questions about bestway agp sizing

Hello,

I pride myself on a lot of research before asking questions but I haven't really been able to answer the question that I have. I purchased a bestway pool and I have picked a location where I want to put it.

I'm trying to determine how big of a foundation that I need to dig for the pool and legs.

I haven't opened the box to get the instructions but I found a pdf online that I believe is the same unit. It wasn't very useful. I've read most of these threads on intex. I found this post, but it's for distance between the supports. However I'm looking for how far out from the pool base will the supports extend. So if the pool is 22x12, do I need a 24x14 area dug out?

Here is the PDF snaps and the pool. The blue markers are the distance that I'm looking for. Unless it is clearly listed there and is 52" based on sketchy diagram but I'm not reading it that way.

13ft 10 in X 25ft 10 in. 14 X 26 will be easier and I would personally go 15X27 to allow yourself some wiggle room if it doesn’t lay out perfectly square to your intended placement.

It’s hard enough for a seasoned pro to keep it *exactly* where you want it. A simple 5 inch shift one way or the other needs 10 inches to accommodate both sides. You won’t regret the wiggle room.

So I picked out my location for the pool and dug it all out. Quick question on leveling the ground at this point. Would it be best to use the lowest corner and dig out the high ends or pick the highest and fill the lowest? In past projects, I would pick the lowest as to not disturb the soil since it's already compacted but I'm not sure with a pool. My brain says yes, follow the same method.

Since I don't have any type of soil compactor and I'm doing this all by free hand, I'll be using a 2x8x8 and level to ensure the ground is flat. I plan on putting down foam boards and the pool would rest on this. Am I doing this right? Early in the game, get the advice from the experts before getting to deep into the project and messing up.

You dug it out by hand? With a shovel? Yowza. Yes, you want to dig out the high sides.

Yeah, me and my shovel. It only took about 7-9hrs. Lost track of time. Started working on the grading, using a rake and shovel... It's going to take a few days I assume to get it level, will have to water it and rake, water, compact, will be slow progress but I have some time.

Still haven't opened the box. Anyone know how many pavers/wood blocks I'm going to need for the supports? I found this manual online, same size so hoping this is accurate.


Here is my dig out, done with shovel and muscles. Took 10 days from the first dig to finish because I wanted to give the ground time to rest and resettle. Found a huge root system but I have no idea which tree, I assume it was removed eons ago or it's from my lilac or the neighbors massive tree. Also, a tv cable line going through my back yard but not anymore.

So I finally got all my electrical components. I'll be running a 20amp breaker on 12/2 to a pvc box outside the house and than running 100ft of 12/2 teck cable to power the pump on a 20amp gfci outlet.

Weather permitting, I'll start running the wire from the panel to the outside tomorrow. The entire area is drywall'd so it should be a fun task. I plan on removing the existing weather rated outlet and using the existing wire to pull my new run plus another wire to rewire the outlet that will be pulled out.

I also unboxed the pool to the individual boxes so I could measure the U connects. Insides are 16" in case anyone else needs to know, so, 18" long paver/wood would be sufficient. I plan on using SPF because I don't have any pavers, my spf is 2" thick and I had it since last year, outside. Getting anything in Ontario is difficult right now. It's all online order and waiting because no stores are opened, you simply cannot walk in and get what you want or browse to see what you may want/need.

Last on my list will be 1" esp board. I was thinking about going with xps but decided that the costs are too great and there really isn't much benefit outside of the moisture repellant aspect. Which people may consider huge being a pool and all but if I can get a few years out of just regular foam, I'll be thrilled. It's a use what you can get.

Just looking at some of the manuals, I need to buy #20 sand for the filter. May I ask what chemicals I need to purchase for this? I have purchased the 2006 kit from Taylor but since stores do not allow in store shopping, not sure after reading the ABC of pool what I really need to purchase. Thanks in advance.

You’ll start out with dry CYA (stabilizer) and liquid chlorine. You’ll add CYA via sock method to get to your target (30 or 40 is a good place to start), and add the appropriate amount of LC. After we see your test results for PH and TA, we will be able to make recommendations.

Looks like the weather might hold out for some wiring. I've decided against getting the foam for the base due to costs and availability. At least this is one thing that I don't have to worry about at this point. I thought about wrapping cardboard in plastic but that's probably going to get mushy. Unless I can get something cheap and now, it's going to be a hard pass.

Been tough weather. Haven't been able to get much done, had about 10 days of rain. Finally got some sun and started looking at running my electrical wiring from the panel to outside the house. Did not go well. Right after the outside brick entry, it's a 90 elbow, fish tape or glow rods did nothing. I ended up removing the top plate of the window and I still can't run the 12/2 to the panel so I need to drill some more holes. But at least the 'hardest' part is done. I have access to my outside box, just need to feed to the panel. Once I have it in place, I'll run teck cable the length of the house and bury it until it reaches the location for the pump. I'm hoping to get all this done in about 2 weeks.

If you have to make a 90 above ground these work great:

There are different configurations but it gives you access to the wires at the turn.

Finally got some progress on the wiring. I tried using fish tape and glow rods but in the end, I cut open a section of the wall in order to run the romex to the panel. I cut 3 1/2 holes in my pvc box, installed a wet connect for the 12/2 teck cable and started trenching, in 24 Celsius weather and a little sunburn. I ended up trenching about 60ft. I joined the tech cable to the romex inside the box and buried the cable at the end of the fence. Today I'll be installing an in use outdoor box with a 20amp gfci outlet and tie that into the teck cable. At that point, I just need to install a new 20amp breaker in the panel and connect the romex and test the outlet. If all goes well, the worse is over I hope and it will just be a matter of getting the pool assembled.
