Hello everyone,

New pool owner here. After battling with my water for a week. (Mostly because my pool took 3 days to fill in) The levels on my pool are getting there. Last time I checked I was missing stabilizer so I added. I’ve been seeing in forums that people use socks? I just followed the instructions in the bucket and it said to add 1 Kg for every 10k liters. I added the corresponding amount for my pool of 64k L. It was getting kinda stuck on the bottom but I brushed like for 30 minutes and it seems to have mixed properly.

My questions are: I have a salt water pool. As of now., every time I add a chemical I turn my system OFF and add the chemicals, for some products I have waited 24 hrs to turn the system back to Auto and for some just a few hours. Can I please get some advice about how long I need to wait for chemicals to dissolve? I know for now that every time I add chemicals the system needs to be OFF but not sure. Once they are okay I turn the system back to auto.

Add stabilizer by putting it in a sock and tie the sock off. Put sock in the skimmer, or hang, carrot on a stick style, in front of a return.

I don't know of any system that needs to be off when adding chemicals. You want your pump running when you add chemicals to mix them into the pool water.

The only time we recommend turning off the SWCG when adding chemicals is if you add a large amount of salt (more than a couple bags). High salinity water going through the SWCG can cause damage to cell.

Fill our signature, so we know what "system" you have.

That’s what I don’t get, why the sock? How am I supposed to put 5 kg of stabilizer into socks? In the bucket of the product it mentioned just to add it to the pool. I didn’t add any stabilizer before.

Okay I will turn my SWCG on. I have a Hayward aqua trol.

Do it in batches. CYA is a mild acid and the granules sitting on the surface can damage the pool surface. We don't recommend broadcasting it.

thank you for the advice. Next time I’ll use the socks. Is there any kind of product specifically for adding stabilizer to the pool? I guess I would need big bags.

Literally like a gym sock, or maybe a thin dress sock uour mother-n-law gave you that you never wore, theyll fit a few pounds.

I dump 5 lbs on the chest of a Tshirt (34k pool) and fold / tie the sides up to make a sack O' cya. Then I tie that up like a roast and hang it in front of a return.

A couple hours later (or the next day in the early spring with cool water) it squishes out in no time.

thank you, just a question. I don’t know what happened but I turned my SWCG on auto again ( I have the aqua trol wayward) and my water started to turn brown again. I have hard water. But I didn’t add any more water. Why is it turning brown? What do I do?

Test strips are inaccurate - and so is pool store testing.

Where in Canada are you - and how close to the US border?
The Taylor K-2006C is available in Canada.
The TF-100 and TF-Pro are available in the US. If you are close to the border, you can have on sent to a US maildrop and plan a day trip down to pick it up.

I cannot tell you the number of times the cost of the kit has saved more money in chemicals than the price of the kit. Without good test results, we really can't help you with your pool chemistry. It is entirely possible we could give you advice that would do more harm than good. Kinda like having a bad blood pressure reading and prescribing you blood pressure medicine when your blood pressure is actually ok...
