Question about repairing hard plumb without draining

So, I need to replace some of the hard PVC plumbing on my pool (long story don't ask )

From my pool to the pump I have a ball valve so I can turn that off. Then I can put my filter in the closed position. But once I cut the bad piece of PVC out (the run from the heater to the return jet in my pool) I assume the water will just run backwards out of the return jet. My return jet is an aqualuminator light.

Is there any easy way you guys can recommend me blocking that so I don't have to drain the pool below the return jet to fix this PVC?

Where on the return though? Like I said it's an aqualuminator light. Is that easy to remove and plug? Or as you suggesting the plug go on the outside of the pool?

You'd remove the light, which would reveal the threaded return pipe (if not threaded, a pressure fit plug would work too). Plug that hole on the inside of the pool. If you have multiple returns, you'd need to plug all of them.

Edit - I see that its for aboveground pools and you may have a rather large hole.

Is it possible to detach the return line on the dry side and plug that line there with a normal sized pool plug? If not, you may have to get creative.

Rubber Stopper This is what I use. I stick it in the eyeball. Its not a perfect seal, but gets the job done. You could remove the light and get a bigger plug to fit.

Or you could stuff any round object of the correct size with some packing (rag, black tape) around it to make a seal... There isn't much pressure.
