My pH typically tests around 7.2-7.4. My Alkalinity is 80. Water is crystal clear and comfortable so I’m not planning on doing anything to increase it, I’m just curious really. The Pool Math app states that the safe range is 7.2-8.0 and the ideal target is 7.6-7.8. Other things I have read puts the idea range at 7.4. I am just wondering what the difference is. Is there a benefit of a slightly higher pH? I can’t imagine the comfort level would be any different for swimmers between a 7.2 and a 7.7 but maybe I’m wrong. Just wondering what your thoughts are. Thanks.

Just to expand on the above and so you understand there are always variables - sometimes people tweak their pH to deal with another issue. For example super high calcium in the far west where water is like cement coming out of the tap . Keeping their pH around 7.2ish helps them avoid calcium scale.
