This weekend we taped the seams of our pool to start preparing for the liner install. My husband also taped over the fittings that will be used for the colorlogic lights because he's worried we'll suck air through the conduit while installing the liner.

I cannot find detailed information on how to handle the nicheless light fittings during liner install but I am convinced you cannot tape over them (how would you remove the tape after?! - he seems to think you can pull it out from behind the liner).

At least, i'm assuming you don't install the lights before the liner?

Advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Put caps on the conduit if it's open. Never tape behind liner. You treat them just like any other return fitting. The liner will suck tight even if they are open I do it all the time
Thanks! We decided to go ahead and install the lights before the liner. It seems like there's enough of a gap between the lights and faceplate to carefully cut without it being a big deal.

Is that ok or is there a reason we should install after? We're still days away from putting the liner in so we can change plans.

You can't install the lights first. The lights screw into the fitting and you need them out to install the faceplate screws that seal the gasket. Same with anything else it all goes on after. Your over thinking it the liner will stretch just fine

So our lights (Hayward Colorlogic) fit totally within the faceplate, don't contact the "return" gasket at all and have no screws on them (yes the faceplate screws on but it doesn't affect the actual light whatsoever). There's a tool to "screw" the light into the fitting but all it does is cause a built in gasket (on the light) to expand inside the fitting. Faceplate screws can still be installed while the light is in. I don't feel like i'm explaining it well. Maybe i'll take pictures tonight

Here's a couple of pictures. Sorry to beat what's probably a dead horse, just want to make sure I understand the problem with this order of operations.

Thanks for your help!

They do, but I still agree with @jimmythegreek that you should install the lights after the fact. On a new install the lights get installed after the liner is in. It will be significantly easier to install the liner if the lights aren't in. Cap or tape off the other end of the conduit, then fish the lights after the liner is in place.
