We're going into our fourth winter with our pool. Here in the Houston area, no one "closes" their pools in the traditional sense. This is generally fine, except that our pool is surrounded by mature trees that drop a TON of leaves from early November through late January. Our pool came with a mesh cover, which I've never tried installing before, but after emptying the skimmers multiple times per day during the worst of last year's leaf drop season, I'm determined to use the cover this winter (of course, pool equipment will be left running as usual).
The dilemma that I'm facing is that it is still unseasonably warm. Our water temperature is currently at 84 degrees, and the pool is still demanding chlorine + weekly brushing to keep algae growth at bay. Should I:
-Hold off on covering the pool until typical water temps drop more (and plan to fight the leaves for at least a couple of weeks)?
-Cover the pool, but uncover it every ~2 weeks to brush the sides and bottom? or
-Leave the pool covered, check and adjust chemicals as needed but not worry about brushing until I uncover it in February?
