Question about coping

We need a new vinyl liner. I am looking to re-do the coping as well as a part of a larger pool renovation. The current coping is some white bullnose material, I think painted aluminum or something.

My question is, how does the liner interact with the coping? If I change the liner now, is the liner going to have issues when I change the pool coping in a year or two? Is it smarter to do them both at the same time?

Thanks

Having no real idea how it is all connected I don't know what all they have to do or undo to get the white "track" off the coping (stone/concrete). As such I think it might be best to see if any of your local pool builders will come out to advise you.

I have installed this type of pool before with that exact coping. The coping is aluminum which has been powder coated and is extremely durable and lasts forever. Here's the problem if you want to change it - the coping when initially installed is screwed to the steel walls with self-tappers, about every 10-12 inches. The concrete pool deck is then floated right up to the edge of the coping. In order to replace the coping, you'll have to bust out the concrete and cut the screw heads off (no way you're getting them to come out.) Then pull up the coping, reinstall fresh coping and re-screw. Parts of the coping may be bonded as well - if you bust the copper wire at the bonding points, you may have to run a new bonding wire. My suggestion is this: Drain the pool down some, tape off the concrete around the coping and sand the coping down. Hit it with some good primer and then re-paint. There is Swimming pool epoxy paint that looks great and lasts forever - hit the coping with this and you'll have great looking coping forever. Once dry, replace the liner and refill. Hit me up if you have any questions/concerns.

Thanks very much for the info. It's helpful. Since we are re-doing the decking around the pool, I think we are going to swap out the coping with concrete coping instead of trying to dress up this stuff.
