putting mesh cover on pool before it is winterized

Does it complicate things for a pool service company if the mesh safety cover is already on the pool when they arrive to winterize it? Can they just peel back the cover near my two returns and skimmer to winterize them and could that potentially damage my old mesh cover? I'm having a hard time convincing my family to help me put the mesh safety cover on because they think that it will complicate things for the pool service company if we do that. I'm tired of spending so much time each day getting leaves out of the pool so I'd like to go ahead and put the cover on now. Our pool service company charges an extra $90 if they have to vacuum leaves out the pool when they get here so I'd like to avoid paying that extra charge by having it clean and covered when they get here.

I wouldn't like having the pool covered cause once I have the 2 return lines plugged and head over to the skimmer to plug that and the drain line, I keep my eye on the returns plugs just to make sure they don't start leaking. If I see bubbles coming out, I go back over and sometimes have to start over. It was a problem this year - I think I had a defective plug. For my part, I'd rather wait till I know all the lines are properly winterized, THEN take a last swim (I don't care what the water temp is) and then put the cover on.

🙋‍♂️ Me 3. The leaves made me cover each year a few weeks before it was cold enough. The pool ran great under the cover and the daily FC loss went to almost nothing with the UV mostly blocked. When the time came I peeled back whatever I needed and had at it.

The same went for the spring. I’d have the pool running / mixing under the cover for a few weeks and ‘opening day’ was a snap only having to pop the cover. I’d spend a little time each weekend while it was still pretty cold to save a marathon day once it got warmer.

Both ends of the season were easier for me to do in stages and worked great.
