Purge or Shock

I’m not quite a year into hot tub ownership. It has been 3 1/2 months since my last purge with awww one and refill. After my purge my Cl usage dropped way back. Heck, I could even skip a day during the week and not add any liquid pool chlorine. Now, I’m adding a lot more. Trying to stay between 5-7 with CYA 40. Water is balanced. Clear and smells great. Same daily usage. Is this a sign I need to shock or purge and do a water change? CC is .5

On months 3+ I would attempt a quick slam if the chemistry got a little wonky. If it didn't make a big difference in a short time, I'd dump without blinking, even in the cold. For most people the water costs FAR less than the chemicals to battle it, with no guarantees they'd win in the end.

The chemistry getting away from you is usually the first sign it's time to start over.

I use AquaClarity weekly. After my first 6 month purge when things got screwy, I was gonna go 5 months this time but I’m gonna go 4 months and purge.

I was lead to believe you could easily go 6 months minimum with aqua clarity but I’m not so sure now. But, I don’t know.

Heck, I may just purge with Awwsome and not use any aquaclarity this time????

You aren't the same bather twice in a row. This time you have more hair stuff residuals, next time it's laundry sauces, the time after that it's sweat and skin.

Even if the usage is fairly constant, it's a different bowl of people soup each time. I imagine the dump intervals could be all over the map even with proper care.
