Pump Turns on with Freeze Protection but not with Intermatic Timer

Hi all,
I have a problem that I cannot figure out:

• When I turn the manual on/off switch on my Intermatic time (PF1202T) I just getting a buzzing humming sound, but the filter motor just buzzes hums.
• However, it has been cold here in Georgia the last couple of nights and the freeze protection circuit DOES turn the pump on. It is running right now.

At first I assumed it was either the capacitor on the motor, but then why would the motor turn on with the freeze protection?

I also thought it could be a the relay, but it looks like both the freeze protection circuit and the manual switch circuit go through the same relay.

The only thing I could think of if that the contacts in the timer/manual switch could be bad.

Thoughts on this problem?

Do you have a multimeter and know how to check voltage?

If yes, check voltage at L1 and L2 at the pump when the timer and freeze protection turn it on.

Otherwise just replace the timer.

Jim,

The Freeze protection by-passes the contacts in the timer..

So.. I agree that the problem is the most likely the timer contacts..
