Well, after 14+ years I think it's time to replace my Jandy 2HP pool pump and I'm hoping I can get some recommendations for a replacement as well as any advice on things to look for in a replacement as I'm sure the landscape of pumps has changed considerably since it was first installed. In fact, I did replace the motor itself a few years ago already but today I went outside to hear a loud screeching sound coming from it and realized it sounds like the motor shaft has seized. And while I know you can sometimes get it going again by taking it apart and cleaning the shaft (I did that on the old one before finally having it seize permanently), I'm also nursing this pump anyway as the main housing sprung a leak near one of the connecting bolts and so I think it's time to replace the whole thing.
I understand variable speed pumps are good if you have water features and I have both a set of in-ground water jets and a 3 output boulder waterfall, but all off the single Jandy 2HP pump. I'm thinking perhaps going variable would be an improvement?
So what do I look for as a replacement? Hoping to purchase and install myself as it doesn't seem all that impossible of a job.
